Can I ride the bus?
Transportation may be provided to students from their designated bus stops to and from the assigned school of attendance whose registered residence from the school campus exceeds 1.6 kilometres for students in Junior Kindergaten through Grade 8. You can download First Ride information handout here.
For students residing within the corporate limits of an urban centre where a Public and/or Catholic Secondary School exists, no transportation will be provided to the Secondary School(s) within that urban centre.
For students residing beyond the corporate limits of the urban centre where a Public or Catholic Secondary School exists and within the attendance boundaries of that Secondary School, transportation will be provided from a pickup point designated by the Board.
Will schools be using Twitter to share information with their school communities?
As we head toward colder weather, it is likely that winter weather may cause school bus or school delays and cancellations. The Huron Perth Student Transportation Services, which provides school bus transportation for students attending Avon Maitland District Schools and Huron Perth Catholic District Schools, introduced a new website in 2008 making it easier for parents, students and community members to receive and view information when inclement weather impacts buses and/or schools.
This year it will be even easier to find the necessary information as Twitter has been incorporated into the messaging. Every school in the district now has a Twitter account which will automatically post the information on the front page of all individual school websites, and if you choose to be a follower of your school’s Twitter account, you can receive these updates direct to your smart phone in real time. The Twitter accounts for each school can also be used to promote day by day school events when the weather is not an issue.
